UNB's Calculus Challenge Exam

For all those interested in attending UNB in the fall, there is an opportunity to write a Calculus Challenge Exam - so you don't take the same (mostly the same) course over again (Math 1003).

It costs $30 to write the exam, and is taking place this Thursday, June 5^th from 6-9 pm.

If you are not interested in writing this exam, but you still don't want to take the same course over again, I recommend that you register for Math 1053 which is an "Enriched Introduction to Calculus."

• Assignment # 10 is due Tuesday, May 27th
• On Tuesday, May 27th at 12:30 I will be going over the test for Ch. 7 (Trig Functions)
• This week we have covered sections 8.5-8.6 and 9.1; today we will cover section 9.2 on Differential Equations (with initial conditions)

Schools in the Fredericton area are closed today due to the flooding of the Saint John river.
A reminder that all schools in NB are closed tomorrow, May 2^nd for Council Day, and that schools in the Fredericton area are closed on Monday, May 5^th due to NBTA Local Branch Meetings.

• Assignment 4 is now due on Friday, March 28^th.
• There will also be a short quiz on Friday covering sections 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 & 3.4 from your text.
• The course midterm will take place on Wednesday, April 9^th - remember this is worth 10% of your mark; and will cover questions from Unit 1, Unit 2, and Unit 3.

Upcoming Notices

On Wednesday we covered until the end of section 2.2 which was the Constant Rule, the Power Rule, and the Constant Multiple Rule. Assignment #2 is due on Tuesday, February 26^th, and there will be a quiz on all of the "Derivative Rules" on Friday, February 29^th. Click here to see updated marks.

Extra Help Canceled

Today extra help was canceled due to weather, so I will be offering extra help on Thursday, February 7^th from 3:40 - 4:10 pm.

In class we talked about when a function is discontinuous (end of section 1.3) and we also looked at two different formulas to use to calculate the slope of the tangent line of a function at a certain point (section 1.4).

Classroom Change

I apologize for the confusion with the classroom situation today - it has been resolved. For all remaining classes we will be in C27. I will put a note on the door of C18 tomorrow morning.
